The search for Elizabeth's remains-

On May 13, 2010 at Hillside cemetery Dr Allen Gontz and his staff brought the ground penetrating radar from Boston to help us find any remains of Elizabeth.
We are awaiting his reports of how far down we have to dig to get to her remains.
She is there! We are so excited!

to check out all of the pictures from this day go to facebook - Elizabeth R. Hill
A fan page has been set up for Elizabeth. Click like and you will be updated as to happenings on our journey.

Historical postcard for 4th grade students -

Each student was presented with a gift for being at the Elizabeth presentation.
A reminder that they are all a part of history and share it with future generations.

Elizabeth comes to the classroom ~

On June 7, 2010 The fourth grade students at the North Brookfield Elementary School have been learning all about Elizabeth R. Hill.
Thanks to Mrs. Davis, she brought Elizabeth back to life for all three fourth grade classes.
Her story is now alive and well for future generations.
Leslie Munns presented the class with a visual power point project and lots of questions were answered as well as discussions amongst the students.
Mr. Varney and Mrs. Shipman and Patty Duggan also participated. The superintendent was also there to learn about Elizabeth.
An exciting learning experience for all.
Thank you Leslie!

Burial place of Elizabeth R. Hill....

For this now where Elizabeth lay apart from her children. Soon to be reunited this summer.

The Committee is putting a call out to anyone having any information on Elizabeth R. Hill from North Brookfield, Massachusetts.
We are particularly interested in finding a picture of Elizabeth.
Artifacts from her old homes for the Historical Society to display. As all her property was seized from her two Elm Street homes.
Family stories or any of her original books are also welcome.
Many thanks...

A Desperate Housewife

Welcome All,
Become a spirited part of history ~ Join us ~
The Elizabeth R. Hill Committee ~ Paulette Adams, Patty Duggan, Shelley Finn, Donna Gauthier, Megan Halloran, Leslie Munns. Mary Truehl
We are a small group of women in a Small New England Town of North Brookfield Massachusetts who have pledged to right a wrong after 90 years.
This is the story of Elizabeth R. Hill ~ 1826-1920 ~ an educated woman, mother, outspoken citizen and her struggles with the town of North Brookfield, the railroad, the church and the loss of all but one of her children. A desperate housewife's final wishes written in her book to be buried with her children Willie, Died at aged 7months, 20 days, Albert, Died at aged 2 years, 10 months, 7days, Warren, Died at aged 11 weeks, Walter, Died at aged 13 weeks, 5 days, in Walnut Grove Cemetery in North Brookfield.
........babies graves, which has a brick vault in the ground, in which is a marble shelf, above those babies coffins, to rest my coffin on when my earthly work is done.....she was 52 years old at the time of this writing.

She penned two books as to cronolouge all the happenings done to her at the time.

False imprisonment of Elizabeth R. Hill done to her by Rev. Gabriel H. De Bevoise, and the selectmen of North Brookfield, Mass., January 5, 1878, and incidents resulting therefrom to February 15, 1881
Published in 1881 ~

Incidents and appalling trials and treatment of Elizabeth R. Hill, from the plotting citizens confederacies in Worcester County, Mass.
Published in 1877 ~

.........Says...Mrs. Hill has annoyed him and the town long enough! Dr. W. Tyler - Elizabeth's brother, who had her committed.

Elizabeth was unjustly committed to the Insane Asylum - Worcester State Hospital........again in 1880 that, (had it not ought to be called Salem
Witchcraft.)

She fought for her freedom and was released by the courts and found not insane. Yet,sometime later, again the town had her committed again!
She, born in 1826 died in 1920 at the age of 95 at the Asylum. She resided there for 16 years and buried at their cemetery, Hillside West.
Everything was taken from her including her land, homesteads, and life.
A last known relative, A Great, Great, Granddaughter has been found.....her wishes as well to bring her back to her native town to be buried with her children.
